Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Christian Church of Cheyenne, Wyoming, welcomes you and thanks you for attending our 29th Annual Greek Festival. We hope you enjoy all that we have to offer.
What started as a modest bazaar at the Greek Orthodox Church has become a cultural staple in Cheyenne. The Greek Festival will return to Cheyenne Friday and Saturday, once again bringing the vibrant Greek culture to life at the Frontier Park Exhibition Hall. The festival has been at its current location for 29 years but was originally formed as a fundraising bazaar and luncheon for the church. The money raised from the event still benefits Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and other local charities in the community.
FRIDAY FOOD BAG FOUNDATION
Partnering with the community to provide nutritious food
to children who might not eat well during the weekend.
Friday Food Bag Foundation is an all-volunteer, charitable foundation that partners with the Cheyenne community to provide nutritious food to Laramie County schoolchildren who might not eat well during the weekend. Wyoming Department of Education data indicates that during the 2013-2014 school year, 39.5% of all students in Laramie County School District (“LCSD”) #1 qualified for free or reduced meals. The number of children who qualify for free meals is staggering: approximately 4063. While these students receive nutritional meals during the week through free or reduced fee breakfasts and lunches, many still do not have consistent access to nutritious food, or any food at all, during the weekend. Friday Food Bag Foundation works with educators and social workers from both LCSD #1 and LCSD #2 to deliver 757 bags of nutritious, non-perishable food each Friday while school is in session to children who otherwise might not eat well, or at all, during the weekends. Friday Food Bag Foundation purchases food through Jo-Ed Produce at a discount, enabling the cost of each bag to remain at $5. Element Church donates space, including utilities, to Friday Food Bag Foundation. These and many other generous corporations and individuals help keep the overhead costs to a minimum so the majority of funds donated goes to purchasing food. It is truly a community effort.
